The role of the security officer could include:
- Night or day guarding
- Restricting access to authorised personnel
- Greeting visitors
- Issuing visitors passes
- Inducting visitors
- Answering and directing telephone calls
- Aid in an emergency; for example quick and controlled evacuation in event of fire or bomb threat. A uniformed presence is a reassuring sign to look for in an emergency situation.
- Carrying out person, bag and vehicle checks
- Logging and controlling vehicle movements
- Removing trespassers
